Walter's Wanderings: Weekly Dispatch (36)
Has your ski trip been booked yet?
It’s freezing in the studio of painter Annelies Van Damme, a garage box in Ghent’s Sint-Amandsberg. “It’s no coincidence I’m wearing a ski suit today,” she laughs.
We read it in an interview in De Tijd by Koen Van Boxem (January 2025). Artists and ski suits — it’s a thing. Think Daniel Hechter at Kunstmuseum Den Haag or the recent collab between American artist Lois O’Hara and OOSC. The romance of the artist… or maybe not?
Because reality bites: heating rarely works, roofs leak, windows don’t close, and the drafts make even your Gore-Tex jealous.
Painting in ski gear? The charm wears off after one winter too many.

Good news: from October Walter opens 600 m² of studios near Brussels South Station. Renovated depots now host 17 bright workspaces with heating, insulation, lighting, work walls, and access control. Spaces are available for individual or shared use, for around 40 artists, musicians, and makers.
Visit days: Friday 10 & Saturday 11 October (sign up via next week’s newsletter).
Available from: 1 November 2025.
And concerts? Absolutely. We kick off on 27 September with a BOZAR collaboration: Nicolas Chkifi & FNUSSJEN + Arve Henriksen & Thomas Morgan.
P.S. Short version? We built studios with heating (testing end of September!) and the first concert is set.
