Na Thunderblenders debuutalbum Stillorgan (2020) duikt Comerford steeds dieper in de muziek waar hij mee opgroeide. Lasure en Bouttery mogen mee duiken en tanken zuurstof bij Ierse fiddler Ultan O’Brien. Die ruilt County Clare even in voor County Cureghem en laat zijn achtergrond in traditionele Ierse folk en geïmproviseerde muziek vrij spel in een nieuw groepsgeluid.
Droom en realiteit ontmoeten elkaar in de composities van Laurence Cousseau, stevig geworteld in de jazz, lekker flirtend met hedendaags klassiek.
Als resident bij Walter verkent Sam Comerford de ruimte tussen avant-garde, improvisatie en de Ierse folktraditie van zijn jeugd. De residentie sluit aan bij zijn onderzoeksproject 'Radical variations, primitive forms; the melodic language of Tommie Potts in improvised music.'
Na een intense residentieweek in december met John Francis Flynn, Jozef Dumoulin en Samuel Ber, heeft Comerford a cunning plan voor het voorjaar. In maart ontmoet hij de wonderlijke Amerikaanse pianiste Myra Melford en deelt die magie met enkele studenten van KASK & Conservatorium Gent.

After Thunderblender’s debut album Stillorgan (2020), Comerford dives ever deeper into the music he grew up with. Lasure and Bouttery get to dive along, taking in oxygen from Irish fiddler Ultan O’Brien.
