'Vexations' is an œuvre for piano composed by Erik Satie in 1893. The piece is short, slow and mysterious but containes a note from the composer : "In order to play the theme 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities"

On several occasions and in different places around the world, marathons were organized where the piece was repeated 840 times, which could take up to 24 hours or more.

In Walter, Jozef proposes a 24 hour version, from September 29th 8 a.m. until 8 a.m. the next morning. He’ll team up with French pianist Benoît Delbecq to ensure the continuity of the piano part, and besides that we vividly invite anybody to come over and listen, watch or to join at any moment and for any duration. So a big hearty welcome to all improvisors, fanfares, classical musicians, kids, punkartists, avant-garde musicians, rock-stars, choirs, electronic artists, music schools, … but also: painters, dancers, filmmakers, poets, actors

During the performance a few specific moments will be organized where the score will be played quite literally, this especially for young and less experienced musicians who need a clear and stable musical situation to play.

Drums, bassamp, guitaramps, PA and microphones, beamer, screen, paint and drawingmaterial will be available

Everybody is welcome to join and play, paint, dance, draw, … or just to listen

Piano : Jozef Dumoulin and Benoit Delbecq
